I've been trying and trying to install the Pets Expansion Pack for Sims 2 from DVD-ROM. I can't remember how well it worked when I got it years ago, but it sure doesn't install now. I probably had it on XP originally, maybe older, but the compatibility troubleshooter just hasn't been working.

I'll say 'Test program', and it does nothing. I've tried running as administrator and changing the compatibility.

I really just want to know whether there's something specific I can do. I've tried some of the things I've read on the website, since I wasn't being connected to a support person. The disc was bought new when Sims 2 was first released. I've tried to apply the patch, but since the game won't even install that doesn't work. Sims 2 itself works just fine, although I tried applying the patch to that since it was recommended, and that particular patch wouldn't install, either. Can anyone help with this? I'm sick of trying to email support and only being redirected to the forums, which are hard to search and never provide the answers I need. The closest I've found to my problem don't seem to be marked as resolved.

The further I've gotten is by changing the compatibility to Windows 98/ME, which gets me the language screen, a warning about backing up saved games, and then an error message. I've attached an image of the error message.

Are you on Windows 10? If you are you may be running into some SecuROM issues and the only way around that would be a digital download. In that case, please reach out to an Advisor via chat or phone call and they should be able to help:1. Click on the following link: (once there make sure that your country is correctly selected in top left hand corner of Help.EA.com)2. Find the affected game (if it's an account issue select Origin) and select Next3. Select your platform and then 'Next'4. Select topic from the drop down menus, type in a short description of your issue and select 'Next'.5.

Select a contact option. Please note that available contact options do depend on your country settings and time of day.Let us know if you run into any issues with this! No, I'm on Windows 8.1.

I got my new laptop before Windows 10 devices came out, and I've heard too many stories about people upgrading to Windows 10, encountering major problems, and not being able to return to their previous OS. I've tried tutorials, watching them on Youtube or following steps listed on this site. Nothing has worked.

The further I've gotten was that error message, and when I looked it up on Google people were saying that if you get that error message, basically nothing can be done. There's no patch or anything, and The Sims 2 website was taken down, so we just don't seem to get any support nowadays. Just tried it again, and the only two options available were the forums (the recommended option), and by phone (the other option).

I've checked the forums again for this particular error message and people are saying that due to compatibility issues the program won't install. Since my mother bought this game for me years ago, I probably can't get a refund, and I'd rather play the game. I don't know why 'Sims 2' works, but this expansion pack doesn't. I hope it's not a case of installing other expansion packs before it, because I don't have any others. Savage land mutates.
